A Bourgeois Bum is a poor person of conservative conviction − that is, the exact opposite of a champagne socialist.
The B-B alliteration was kept in English for good style, but the Bum is not a caviar eating bohème. Bourgeois hints at the Bum’s political views, not his social background which is rather modest, from the classless countryside. Another translation from Danish would be Conservative Bum (or slacker, shirker, loser, hobo). But bear in mind that a conservative in Europe may be similar to a moderate in the United States or a liberal republican if they still exist.
The Bum wants to promote:
- integral humanism (man is both body and spirit, bound to community and tradition)
- autonomism (or the idea of communal and individual independence, if you wish)
- a bit of technocratism – knowledge and rational thought is not bad in the right place
- free-spirited and solidaric conservatism
- criticism of the reverse sides of various society systems, including those of the welfare state and of capitalism!
The Bum’s dharma (view of life) stems basically from rural northwest Jutland (home village links: da, de). He is not a member of any congregation of faith, although has inclinations towards Nordic and Classic paganism, nature religions and Hinduism. Christianity and its many subspecies are observed with friendly interest. Over time, however, he has gathered more insight in life from sociology, poetry and literature than from religion.
The Bum will fight reactionary cynicism, wealth envy and the wealthys’ envy, neoliberal ego tripping and dissolution, socialist emotional confusion, turtle neck Christianity, amber necklace Christianity, and bureaucracy. These concepts are typically Danish but have their twisted equivalents in most other western countries, often worse than in our fine land.
Criticism of authorities will also occur. But especially of those lackeys and slaves who for no good reason create authorities because licking boot soles gives their life a meaning.
The Bum’s conservatism is similar to ’red conservatism’ – traditional values without oppression and a capitalism seeking everyone’s participation. That may sound like Scandinavian social liberalism with a high degree of state bureaucracy, mutual control and money redistribution, but is in fact rather the total opposite.
The Bum is positive to:
- keeping the nation state, and basic cooperation between democratic, free nations
- increased enlightenment, responsibility, joy and pride of everyone
- true free trade, which includes fighting monopolies and unfair corporate parasiting
- land value taxation (in place of income, corporate and sales tax)
The Bum will, as far as possible, write about topics of general interest, but personal posts may occur.
The Bum sometimes laughs at his own posts which cannot be healthy.
